So first lets go over some numbers. The simple numbers are 35 and 40. That is for a women you want your waist less than 35 inches and for a man any number shy of 40 for optimal health. This spot you measure from is usually just above your belly button, at the smallest part of your waist. A more accurate measure is you hip-to-waist ratio. Your hips measurement is taken at the widest part of the hips. For guys you want a 1 to 1 ratio or less, meaning that the waist needs to be the same size or smaller than the hip and not the other way around. For us gals if you divided the waist by the hips the number should be .8 or less. So here youd rather be a pear shaped lady that an apple. So for example if your hips are 38 inches, you would want a 30-inch or smaller waist.
