The 3 major search engines place a lot of importance on the number of incoming links to your site, but they also now how to spot if your link building campaign is natural or automated – and if they suspect for 1 second that it may be automated, all those links will count for nothing as the search engines will simply discard them.

So when we launch a site and start to get incoming links, we need to make it as natural as possible. The good news is that is can be very easy if you know how to go about it in a structured way.

There’s nothing wrong with getting hundreds of links in week 1, so long as you keep it up week after week. What I’m going to share here are 4 simple techniques you can start using today to build your link popularity naturally and safely, and with some automation.

There’s 2 parts to my article marketing strategy – part 1 is where I submit unique articles to the top article directories (see the list below). Part 2 is where I use a fairly new software application that will create unique (and humanly readable) versions of my article and submit them to over 600 different “second tier” article directories. Since I’ve been using it, this software has been responsible for some very lucrative first page listings for my web sites.

Part 1 of this technique is to submit unique articles (either written by yourself or outsourced if you prefer) to the top 7 authority article directories. I refer to them as authority sites as they are all seen as high quality sites by the top search engines, and have high PR in Google. So a backlink from these sites to yours carries a lot of weight towards increasing your sites link popularity. The sites I refer to are:

Ezinearticles.com. ArticlesFactory.com. GoArticles.com. Pheedcentral.com. Searchwarp.com. Helium.com. BigArticles.com

That’s a total of 7 unique articles so far, and all these sites are seen as “authority” sites in the eyes of Google – which means they’ll provide a high value backlink to your site.

OK – so we now have 7 permanent high PR incoming links to your site. My second technique is going to explode this to over 600 incoming links, and will be even easier than the first technique. This approach involves the use of a new semi automated system called Unique Article Wizard.

UAW will submit your article to the list of article directories that it supports, which at the time of writing is fast approaching 700 unique directories. That equates to almost 700 unique backlinks to your site, and all these sites are indexed by the three major search engines and have good pagerank. So each backlink from these articles counts.

And the really neat twist is that UAW will submit a completely unique version of your article to each directory. It does this in a way to ensure every article is readable with no gobble-de-gook or machine generated content (see how below). So each of the directories it submits to gets a unique version of your article – not some machine generated or pseudonym replaced mumbo jumbo that no-one would ever want to read.

This in itself is a huge benefit since the top 3 search engines started filtering out duplicate content on the web. This basically means that if you submit the same article to 10, 20 or even hundreds of sites, the search engines will ignore all but the first version of your article it finds – so instead of having hundreds of backlinks from those article sites, you’d be left with just 1. Not so with this software – every link counts.

For off-page optimization, you can use a low-cost link building service to generate backlinks from relevant sites. The number of backlinks can be in the thousands. However, the problem is these low-cost services get “used up” after a while. So you really need to get a new service about every 6 months or so if you want continued results. Many linkbuilding services are available now at lower costs and they can build your backlinks quite effectively. Well, if you use those savings to hire a site designer and hire writers, your SEO and linkbuilding campaigns will show a better ROI-Return on Investment, much sooner.

When you are the only person on your staff, you need to see a fast return on your expenses. This is true if you are responsible for expanding your company’s offline presence onto the web also. What is the best strategy for doing that? Keep your fingers “in the pie”. Stay involved and maintain control over your search engine optimization efforts. This is also a great way to teach yourself what is actually working. This isan important skill that all companies need to stay competitive. Every manufacturer has a website full of detailed information and there are plenty of reviews online for you to compare while you are still looking.

Remember to stay within your budget and check on the field of vision and depth of field while you are looking. That is what it takes when you get right down to the details.
